Most widely known as the home of the famous racecourse, Ascot is a small town in the east of Berkshire. It is reported that Queen Anne first saw the potential for a racecourse at Ascot in the 1700s when she came across an area of open heath land whilst out riding. The first meeting took place in 1711, with Her Majesty's Plate being offered as a prize to the seven horses entering the competition. In 1813, Parliament passed an Act of Enclosure which secured the future of the Crown owned Ascot Heath as a racecourse for public use. The recently redeveloped Ascot Racecourse is a spectacular facility featuring enormous terraced stands and immaculate grounds, and attracts over half a million visitors each year. Mid-June is prime racing time, with Royal Ascot the most notable event on the calendar. The event features world class horse racing, elegant and often outrageous hats, socialising and a royal procession that has been tradition since 1825.

Aside from the races however, the town itself is picturesque and has a lively nightlife and shopping. Just six miles away from historic Windsor and the famous Windsor Castle, Ascot also offers access to three golf courses within five miles. The village of Sunninghill is little over a mile away and is a residential district in an area noted for its natural beauty. Ascot Business Park, opened in 2008, is a base for numerous small and medium enterprises as well as a leading toy manufacturer and the Chartered Institute of Building.
